Add a brief title

Naples, Italy - Chairman of the Italian organisation, Oltre Le Frontiere (ANOLF - beyond boundaries), Mohamed Saady, warned on Saturday against the use by the Polisario separatists of the issue of human rights in Morocco's southern provinces for propaganda ends.

Speaking at a conference on human rights in Maghreb countries, Saady deemed it legitimate and necessary to defend the economic and socio-cultural rights of individuals, but warned "against exploiting the issue for propaganda ends to harm the territorial integrity of States."

The NGO leader, who visited Morocco last week, said he has seen "the existence of a thriving civil society that works in a climate of freedom and responsibility on all the issues linked to the society, which evidences that Morocco has gone through radical changes in recent years."

He also underlined the growing role of women within the civil society, stressing that denying such changes would only be an attempt to "occult the reality."

The Naples conference gathered NGOs from the different regions of Morocco, which gave different and daring views on the situation of human rights in the north African country.

ANOLF was set up in 1989. It musters immigrants from different ethnic origins, and endeavours to foster comprehension and friendship among peoples, and to fight all forms of racism and discrimination in accordance with the Italian laws.

The organisation enjoys support from the Italian confederation of workers' unions.
