Morocco submitted a solution securing cohesion, peace, former polisario leader

Morocco submitted a realistic solution to the Sahara issue which secures cohesion, peace and prosperity for the southern populations, away from any schism that serves a foreign agenda in the region, said former polisario founding member, Ahmadou Ould Souilem, who has just returned to Morocco.
The Kingdom of Morocco presented an autonomy plan which enables breaking the impasse, opens very promising prospects and calls for full support, Ould Souilem told BBC Arabic channel on Wednesday.

Morocco is the only party that has submitted proposals to assist the United Nations in seeking a fair solution, whereas the polisario is still clinging on to one stand, he added.

There are two positions: one spurring momentum for a solution of compromise, and another one holding on to outdated options which serve in no way the region's interests, he noted.

The polisario, which is caught in a bad situation, is not qualified to seek or achieve peace and should rather reveal its real intentions, Ould Souilem said.

The polisario's project is "dead" mainly after the submission by Morocco of the autonomy initiative for the southern provinces, a proposal supported by the population held captive in the Tindouf camps, he said.
